Report on Glucose Curves Monitored with the Flash Glucose Monitoring System (From 30th March 2025 to 5th April 2025)
30th March 2025
Last week’s graph in the glucose monitoring system indicated
insulin deficiency from morning to night. I was taking Zita Pio with breakfast,
which does not stimulate beta cells for insulin secretion. Throughout the
night, while taking Gemer DS 2 with dinner, the glucose level in my body is
managed well. Starting today, I will also take Gemer DS 2 in the morning.
Before breakfast, I had a cup of tea with a fried pathiri,
which caused my glucose level to peak from 160 to 230. Ignoring my high glucose
level, I had breakfast, consisting of three idlis, and then started walking. I
walked for two hours, and by then my glucose had come down to 80. Quickly, I
ate a bowl full of seedless grapes (around 20). My glucose level reached 126,
an increase of 46. I thought grapes would cause a sudden spike, but nothing of
the sort happened. Later, when the level
dropped to 104, I ate five jackfruit bulbs, which raised the value to 153.
In the evening, I enjoyed coffee with peanuts and
pistachios, causing my glucose level to increase from 99 to 112. During dinner,
at 8:53 PM, the glucose value was 107; I walked for an hour. By the time I was
going to bed, the value had risen to 189.
At midnight, I woke up suddenly. I checked the glucose
monitoring system and was shocked to see 80 on the mobile screen. Sensing the
danger of hypoglycaemia, I quickly ate an orange.
31st March 2025
The mobile screen showed a reading of 99. I had a cup of tea
at 6:20 AM. By 7:35 AM, my glucose level had risen to 135, and at 8:00 AM, it
increased further to 141.
While having breakfast at 8:30 AM, my glucose level was at
138. After 45 minutes, it rose to 227, and fifteen minutes later, it decreased
to 218, which could be considered a postprandial value. My breakfast consisted
of three vellappams and a curried dish of black chickpeas. I wonder if having
just two vellappams would be better for managing my glucose levels. I believe
this slight spike may be due to delaying my walk after breakfast. Additionally,
I rode my bicycle immediately after eating, which might not be the best choice
for diabetes management compared to walking.
I also experimented with two types of drinks commonly
discussed for their benefits in diabetic care. Both boiled cinnamon leaf water
and gooseberry juice seem to help lower glucose levels. After consuming the
cinnamon leaf water, my glucose level dropped from 187 to 167. Following the
gooseberry juice, my glucose level decreased even further to 131.
I had lunch at 1:50 PM, and Mustafa brought biryani to
celebrate Eid ul-Fitr. Before I started eating, my glucose level was at 90.
When I checked the monitor again at 3:40 PM, the reading was 153.
At 5:15 PM, I had coffee with pistachios and peanuts, and my
glucose level at that time was 145. Later, at 6:45 PM, the reading dropped to
133, indicating that the large mug of coffee and nuts did not significantly
impact my glucose levels. I had also been working outside, moving quickly and
exerting energy, which likely contributed to the drop.
For dinner, I did not have a specific item since I was not
hungry, so I decided to restrict myself to fruits only. I ate one small
homegrown mango, one orange, and a small bowl of seedless grapes. When I
checked my glucose level before eating, it was at 104. After 45 minutes, I
found that it had increased only to 156.
1st April 2025
I woke up at 4:25 AM, and my glucose level was 111. I then
went to the gym and began exercising. Soon, the value rose to 125. After an
hour, at the end of my workout, the glucose level was 131. The increase in
glucose levels, despite no food intake, could be due to stress hormones sending
memos to the liver to release the stored glucose. This was my first gym day
after a three-day rest, and my body might have been confused by the sudden
energy expenditure.
At 8:45 AM, I had puttu with a green gram curry for
breakfast, and my sugar level was 121. By 10:30 AM, the glucose level had risen
to 205, but a little later, it dropped down to 189.
At 2:25 PM, I ate green gram curry and two oranges, and my
glucose level at that time was 106.
I had my evening coffee around 6 PM. My glucose level was
131. Now, at 6:45 PM, the value stands at 123.
My glucose level was 130 mg/dL at 9:15 PM when I had dinner,
which consisted of one and a half pieces of puttu. By 10:25 PM, my glucose
level had risen to 186 mg/dL, suggesting that digestion was not yet complete. I
stopped walking at that point. At 10:46 PM, the reading increased to 239 mg/dL,
and by 11:13 PM, it rose further to 278 mg/dL. Perhaps I should have walked
longer than I did.
April 2nd 2025
I woke up at 4:25 AM, looked at the monitor, and saw that
the value was 90. Despite yesterday's spike, the fasting value was extremely
normal. During my gym exercises, it rose to 130. At 6:14, I reached a small tea
shop and had a bonda and sugarless tea. At that time, the value was 121.
I reached home and started walking while listening to music. The graph went up
until the vertical line reached 173, and as I continued walking, I noticed a
drop in the score. After two hours, the glucose dropped to 140 mg per dL.
Before breakfast at 9:20 AM, which consisted of three idlis,
the monitor displayed a glucose level of 130. By 11:20 AM, the glucose level
had risen to 173.
I thought about lunch just before 2:30 PM. I had 250 grams
of a curried dish made with various vegetables, 150 grams of papaya, some
peanuts, and a black coffee sweetened with stevia. At that time, my glucose
level was 120. Now, at 4:11 PM, it has risen to 160. Before reaching 160, it
peaked at 172. It seems that papaya does not significantly spike my glucose
levels.
I had my evening coffee after 6:30 PM. I enjoyed a big beer
mug full of filter coffee, along with peanuts and a snack called thitta. At
that time, my glucose level was 114. After one hour, it rose to 135. By 8 PM,
it had increased again to 155.
Afterwards, I did yoga for about half an hour. At 9:25 PM, I
was planning to have dinner when I checked my glucose monitor and was shocked
to see my level had risen to 182. I wondered why my glucose level increased
without eating anything for three hours. Could yoga have caused this rise?
Probably not. So, what could it be?
This morning at 9 AM, I took Gemer. Now, twelve hours have
passed, and since its half-life must be complete by now, I suspect this is why
my levels have increased. However, I cannot take medication on an empty
stomach, so I had dinner that consisted of two idlis and mixed vegetable curry.
After half an hour, I went for a walk, indoors, while listening to Jayateerth
Mevundi's concert, which lasted until 11:10 PM. I checked my glucose level afterwards,
and it was just 142.
April 3rd 2025
When I woke up at 4:25 AM, my glucose level was 99. By the
time I was getting ready to go to the gym, it had risen to 114. While leaving
the gym, it was 120. Just before having a cup (big, almost double a cup) of
tea, the value was 106. I tried Parry’s GI Sugar for an experiment. The peak
lasted until it reached 176, and then it started dropping. That means three
teaspoons of GI Sugar can raise the glucose level by 176mg/dL. Therefore, GI
Sugar is not advisable for a diabetic; it is better to stick to stevia.
I had breakfast at 8:50 AM: four dosas and chutney. The
monitor displayed my glucose level at 145. I was too busy to find time for a
walking session. however, there was not much of an increase; it just reached
176 and then fell to 140 by 10:45. The value of 140 can be considered the
postprandial level.
At 12:15 PM, I had a cup of sugarless coffee with a Urad
Vada, and my glucose level was 118. An hour later, at 1:20 PM, my glucose level
dropped to 112. I had been riding my bicycle for a while, which may explain why
there was not an increase in my glucose readings. One thing is certain: Urad
vada will not negatively impact glucose level management.
At 3 PM, I had two Nadan mangoes, 250 grams of papaya, a
bowl of vegetable curry, a handful of peanuts, a handful of pistachios, and a
coffee sweetened with stevia. My glucose level at that time was 85. By 3:49 PM,
my glucose level had risen to 150.
I started my evening session with a large cup of coffee
filled to the brim, accompanied by peanuts, pistachios, and titta, when my
glucose level was at 110. However, after an hour, my glucose rose to 150. This
upward trend has continued, and it has now reached 198, likely because the
morning dose of Gemer DS 2 is wearing off. At 8:30 PM, I had a small dinner
with two dosas and onion chutney. Half an hour ago, the value was 210, but now
at 10 PM, it has dropped to 184.
4th April 2025
I woke up at 4:25 AM. At that time, my glucose level was 95.
I ate an orange as a precaution against hypoglycaemia during my gym exercises.
When I left the gym, my level was just 135. However, after having a cup of tea
with a pazhampori, my glucose value rose to 200 after some time. It was 144
when I had breakfast, which consisted of one puttu with potato stew. When the
value rose to 185, I drank an ounce of cold-pressed gooseberry juice and also
fenugreek-soaked water. These two may have played a role in reducing the
glucose level, although one cannot say for certain. Either they caused a slight
drop or no change at all; nonetheless, they did not cause an increase. The
spike after breakfast reached 199 and then began to lower.
For lunch, at 1:30 PM, I ate two oranges, an egg,
stevia-sweetened milk coffee, peanuts, a few pieces of titta, and a bowl of cut
papaya. I had all these when my glucose level was just 95. Now, at 2:30, the
value rose to 151. 173 was the peak. At 3:23 PM, it dropped to 154.
I had my evening coffee with peanuts and pistachios at 6 PM,
and my glucose level at that time was 122 mg/dL. An hour later, at 7 PM, my
glucose level had risen to 125 mg/dL.
At 9 PM, I had dinner, during which my glucose level
remained at 125 mg/dL. For dinner, I ate one puttu with vegetable curry. Half
an hour after dinner, I started walking around my home while listening to
"Rag Bihag" by Bhimsen Joshi. At 10:37 PM, when "Rag Bihag"
finished, I stopped walking, and my monitor displayed a glucose level of 181
mg/dL.
I know it may take a few more minutes for digestion and
absorption to complete, so I decided to check my glucose level again at 11 PM.
To my surprise, the level had risen to 230 mg/dL. This indicates that eating
one puttu resulted in a glycemic rise of 105 mg/dL.
5th April 2025
I do not go to the gym on Saturdays and Sundays, so I woke
up late; the monitor screen showed 121. I had a cup of tea, which raised the
number to 155. I had breakfast, three idlis. I could not walk in time as I had
to go out. When I returned home, the monitor screen indicated 207. Soon I started walking, listening to young
Mishras. The walk took almost an hour; by then, the value dropped to 185.
